Tyler Gene Akin Born July 30 8Lbs. 3 oz 20" long!

I just wanted to update everyone on Tyler Gene Akin. He was born at Tacoma General on July 30, 2008 via c-section weighing in at 8lbs 3oz. and 20" long!

It was a very rough start for both Tyler and me. I went into my doctors office the morning of the 30th since I woke up and was unable to see out of my left eye and I had a really bad headache. They preformed a stress test on Tyler for 20 minutes and since I was seeing Dr. Duke a different doctor than I normally see Dr. Duke went and found my doctor Dr. Abbi and they were thinking about having me be induced since I was having some problems with headaches and blurry vision not to mention we already knew our baby was a Large baby anyway, but they were also thinking about sending me home and letting me come in when my water broke. Dr. Abbi came in and checked me and right before she did I could feel that my water broke but Dr. Abbi said she didn’t see anything. When she went to check me I had partical placental abruption and in the doctors office I lost over 500cc of blood. The nursing staff was freaked out Dr Abbi was having my husband call for an ambulance the look of the nursing staff faces and Dr. Abbi’s face said it all. I knew what had happened and they had Tacoma Fire Department come down and transport me down the street. When we arrived at Tacoma General they had 3 doctors waiting in my room ready to operate since partical placental abruption can be fatal to both mom and baby. They were able to stabilize both Tyler and me.

I was able to labor for 9 hrs. before the took Tyler by C-section since every time I would have a contraction it would cut off his blood supply. The C-section was the worst experience of my entire life. At first they couldn't get me completely numb finally after the 4th try I was numb, but it was short lived. The feeling of someone ripping your abdominal wall apart was terrible I just remember screaming and crying to mention I threw up a few times as well. Apparently I even grabbed an Interns butt during the surgery crazy what drugs can do to you! After a very long surgery I was taken to recovery where I was able to hold Tyler but I don't really remember it at all.. Tyler was then taken to the Nursery later he was taken to the NICU since he was having respiratory problems and I was taken downstairs since I was on many medication drips.... I wasn’t able to see Tyler until 3 days later when I was taken off some of the medication drips so they then moved me to the Mom and baby floor at 1 am where I was able to go visit Tyler in the NICU since he was having problems keeping his oxygen saturations up in the 90’s. Tyler was in the NICU for two days. I am very thankful that Terry and I decided to change hospitals at the beginning of my prenatal care since we were going to deliver at Good Sam hospital, but with all the complications I feel much better knowing that Tyler was in the best Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the state of WA! The worst part of the delivery is I don’t remember Tyler’s first cry and I wasn’t able to spend time with him until he was three days old. I feel like I missed out on the beginning of his life for the first 3 days. I had to look at pictures that Terry would go and take so I could see what he looked like. Long story short…

Tyler and I are both doing much better and I want to say THANK YOU TO YOU ALL FOR ALL THE SUPPORT DURING THIS HARD TIME. I CAN'T THANK MY MOM AND SISTERS ENOUGH FOR ALL THE SUPPORT AND WONDERFUL ADVICE! Terry has been amazing during this whole adventure I couldn't ask for a better husband at all. I mean we were in the process of moving while this labor and delivery was taking place in our life and Terry as well as our family and friends were able to move all of our stuff and clean out our old apartment for us. We couldn't ask for better familys or friends. My mom stayed with Terry, I and baby Tyler for over a week after he was born and she took turns getting up with me at night and helping me with all the little tricks that new moms need to learn. I was so blessed to have someone with wonderful knowledge I been what could be better than having someone help you who has had 5 kids and 2 of them being twins!

Thank you to Keren who came down to the hospital and with the help of my mom and her we were able to teach the little man how to breastfeed like a champ ( as keren would say!)

35 weeks pregnant! Only 35 days to go!

Today I had Terry take some pictures of my fast growing belly! We are 35 weeks pregnant today and we are both so excited we only have 35 more days to go! This week we found out we are moving at the end of this month so of course my thought is this baby will come then when everything is in boxes! I have been packing already so that Terry doesn't have too much to do. I figure he can move them as long as I pack them!

Waiting for Baby Akin to Arrive!

We are currently 34 weeks and 4 days along now and we can't wait to have this HUGE baby of ours! We are still working on a name we have a couple that we like but we have not finalized anything for sure yet! The baby is already 6.5 Lbs and is measuring at 40 weeks already! The doctors don't know why he is growing so much but boy am I ready for him to come out and meet his parents and family! The doctor wants us to wait another 4 weeks now until our next ultrasound and they might take him then which would be Aug. 5 or atleast schedule a C-section but they want to wait and see much bigger he is going to get which is hard for me.... but oh well..... I haven't updated this page for a while now and im trying to be better about it but we also had the babyshower which was great and was fun to see everyone so excited about this baby!
